Sample Refection #1
Anne Firth Murray Lecture (Founder Global Fund for Women)
Paradigm Found: Leadership for Positive Social Change
Date: Wednesday, March 26, 2008

Reflection: Anne Firth Murray, born in New Zealand, was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for being a distinguished woman among women of the world!  Although she did not win, she made a difference in the world specifically for women.  She founded the Global Fund for Women.  She started this organization in the city of Philadelphia but it is now based out of California.  The organization gives money to smaller organizations that are fully or partially run by women.  From Anne’s talk about positive social change, I learned that she wanted to better the world of women by breaking stereotypes, and getting rid of negative attitudes about differences between women.

Sample Reflection #2
Lunafest Film and Lecture
Date: Sunday, March 23, 2008

Reflection: Through the Lunafest presentation I learned that women go through so many of the same things regardless of their age, race, ethnicity, and/or culture.  The event included a series of short films about women around the world and issues they go through.  It was not directed toward any certain audience (like it was not specifically for women) which made it a valuable event.  I also learned through the films that women are easily influenced by each other and that you cannot buy happiness.  In one of the films, a woman buys a box and it has the word happiness printed on the outside.  The sales clerk mentions that it will last for as little or as long as the customer wants it to.  After buying the box and realizing she does not care what is inside, the customer returns it to the store and buys something else that makes her happy ( a pair of shoes).  The event was interesting and opened my eyes to a new outlook on the world of women.

Sample Reflection #3
An Evening with Jerry Springer
Date: Wednesday, February 20, 2008

Reflection: Having such a recognizable man on our campus was such a great experience. His presentation was not like what anyone had expected; he took time to really evaluate past guests from his show, and helped the audience see issues from another perspective. Jerry Springer is an extremely passionate individual, active in political issues as well as cultural issues. It was interesting to hear him speak outside of what we know him for, which is the Jerry Springer Show.
